I have been working with opensource for more than 15 years. Since 1999 I have been a staff at the Samba community in Japan. - Published about LDAP Administraton book from SB Creative Corp. - Presentation on OSC 2007 TOKYO Japan "Introduction to File server Building with Samba"

The fact that an open source product is available in the user's native language increases the user's convenience. This increases the usage of localized products.
The speaker has been involved in translating open source products for over 20 years. In the past, translation was done by pulling up a dictionary made of physical paper, but now a better environment is provided. In particular, the performance of machine translation has improved significantly, and many documents can now be roughly translated by machine translation. However, even with the improved accuracy of machine translation, translating from English to Japanese still requires a lot of know-how. The reasons for this include the fact that the structure of the language differs considerably between English and Japanese, as well as matters derived from the characters used to write the Japanese language. In addition, the consistency between the license of the machine translation results and the open source license can also be a problem.
In this presentation, I will introduce a method for efficiently translating openSUSE packages using the translation tool OmegaT and the machine translation service Textra. In addition, various know-how on how to translate from English to Japanese will also be explained.
