Promoting open source in universities and technical institutes
My name is Dimitris Papapoulios and I am a 25 year old college student from Greece. I am a member of our college team LinuxTeam, member of the gentoo greek community and also an openSUSE member. I have been promoting linux and open source in general by organizing install fests, giving talks about linux not only to our college but conferences around Greece, helping with translations, at booths and on more technical stuff like the system administration of our teams servers etc. I have also been a mentor to newer members helping them with any questions and leading them to understand how linux and opensource teams work in general.
In my free time I like to read about new technologies and experiment with them. I am also can be considered a book worm since I enjoy books. I am also a guitar player and huge music fan. That is all.
I will give a talk about how it is to promote linux and open source (along with openSUSE) in general in a university environment. What it needs to be done, the challenges you will have to face and how you might overcome them, how to gain the trust of your professors and if it is possible for a college to turn to more open source solutions.
