For high quality documentation LaTeX is the best option as FOSS. This is the system which is used not only for research article but for any kind of technical documents like reports, letter, books, slide presentation and many more one can think of. As a FOSS system, LaTeX can be used on all operating systems and it can be used with many editors. LaTeX attracts the users with its capability of handling large document by cross-referencing, sectioning, tables, figures and many other advanced typesetting. Complex mathematical formulae can be easily presented beautifully by LaTeX. This talk aims to introduce LaTeX to the audience such that they can explore this FOSS system for their specific benefits. Talk will start from the installation of LaTeX with suitable editor. Fundamental steps to work with the environment will be demonstrated with basic commands. Simple report writing will be covered including various typesetting for Mathematical Functions, Equations, Tables, Figures and Bibliography.
Main Topics:

  • Installation of LaTeX and TeXworks
  • Basic Instructions for Report Writing
  • Mathematical Formulae
  • Equations
  • Tables
  • Figures
  • Bibliography LaTeX is the de facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents. LaTeX is available as free software. You don't have to pay for using LaTeX, i.e., there are no license fees, etc. But you are, of course, invited to support the maintenance and development efforts through a donation to the TeX Users Group (choose LaTeX Project contribution) if you are satisfied with LaTeX.
