Lock elision with new instructions
I was born in 1972 My first kernel patch was making joysticks work on ES1370 sound cards. I've been involved in the kernel since 1.2.13 I studied Computer science at the university of Munich, 2000-2006 I've been working at Suse since 2007
No video of the event yet, sorry!
Introduction of the HLE and RTM instruction set extension for lock elision in user space and kernel space. The scalability of conventional locking is discussed. the instructions and the memory model are introduced. The use of the technique in the pthread library and in the kernel's locking primitives is introduced.
